Regarding Silverfish, I usually ask a few questions first, to get a sense of
what’s going on, and the best way to control it.
- Do you live in a single family residence?
- Have you had a water leak, or other water related problems in the
past few years? - Do you have stuff stored in cardboard boxes in the garage or
basement? removing or restoring the contents of cardboard boxes into
plastic bins and removing any paper sitting on damp concrete or earth is
critical to mitigate the silverfish problem. Without doing this, they can
hide and breed and continue to be a problem. Silverfish eat and live in
moist decaying matter and cardboard boxes are their favorite harborage.
If you have damp drywall from a leak, they love the paper in that as well.
They use pipes as highways to go from damp places where they live to
others, like your bathrooms. - How many silverfish are you seeing in a week or month?
- Where are you seeing them?
We do not service buildings over 3 units for quality assurance reasons. We strongly
advise that you coordinate with your building mates to deal with any pest
issue as it is difficult to control pests in a building if all have the
issue, but only 1 unit is taking steps to eradicate it.
We use mostly boric acid dust, which we apply inside the wall voids around
plugs, switches, pipes in the kitchen and bathroom, and attic or basement
if you have those. We also use an aerosol sprayer and apply to any cracks
and crevices around baseboards, fireplaces, cabinets. Then we treat the
outside foundation, and around vents, windows, doors, and anywhere else
insects may enter.
Almost all the materials we use go into the walls, or into cracks and
crevices around baseboards and other molding, so you and your pets will
not come into contact with any of it.
You do need to be out of the room when we are treating it, but can
re-enter the room when we are finished.
Possible list of chemicals:
Inside, BorActin, Cimexa, PT Phantom 2, Temprid Readyspray. Outside,
Arilon or Termidor around the foundation. Advion Insect Granules in any
areas of heavy vegetation.
